Benign and invasive tumors induced in Drosophila by an inherited tumor-inducing factor.

چکیده
The injection of the tu-e (spontaneous tumor strain) tumor-inducing factor into the wild 51-52 (genetically tumor-free strain) hosts induces the formation of melanotic tumors (4, 8). The induced wild 51-52 and the spontaneous tu-e tumors are histologically similar (4). The spindle-shaped tu mor cells and tumors have never been observed in histological sections of wild 51-52 animals unless they have been injected with the tumor-inducing factor (2, 4). In an earlier investigation, possible differences between tumors induced by the tumor-inducing factor in crude and purified preparations were ob served (2). This communication elucidates some aspects of these differences.

Characteristics of an inherited tumor-inducing factor in Drosophila melanogaster.
The etiology of melanotic tumors in several strains of Drosophila melanogaster is associated with inherited tumor-inducing factors (3). The tumor-inducing factor (TIF) extracted from larvae of the tu-e (spontaneous) tumor strain when injected into mid 51-52 (genetically tumorfree strain) induces the formation of growths that are histologically similar to those present in the tu-e donors (4, 8)....
متن کاملEvaluation of Soft Tissue Tumors by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Its Correlation with Histopathology: A Retrospective Study in a Tertiary Care Center
Background and objectives: Soft tissue is a non-epithelial extraskeletal tissue of the body. Soft tissue tumors (STTs) are the most commonly diagnosed neoplasms. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is minimally invasive, quick, and a definitive diagnostic modality. Biopsy for histopathology is the gold standard method for diagnosis but is invasive. The aims of this study were to determine th...
متن کاملClassification and grading of canine malignant mammary tumors
Histological grading is a good parameter to stratify tumors according to their biological aggressiveness. The Elston and Ellis grading method in humans, invasive ductal breast carcinomas and other invasive tumors are routinely used. The aims of this study were classification of mammary gland tumors and also application of a human grading method in canine mammary carcinoma. The samples included ...
متن کاملThe role of steroid receptors in and pretumoral edema accompanying meningiomas
Background: Meningiomas are considered extra-axial and benign tumors. Though they are pathologically classified as benign, non-benign and other types, it seems that information derived from this classification cannot explain the behavior of the tumor. Pretumoral brain edema (PTBE) is one of the signs that has been less thoroughly studied, and still there is not a single consensus about its mech...
متن کاملCoexistence of Benign Brenner Tumor with Mucinous Cystadenoma in an Ovarian Mass
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy. The surface epithelial tumor is the most common type of ovarian cancer. Among these, the mucinous tumors account for 10-15% of ovarian tumors. Mucinous ovarian tumors are among the most difficult ovarian neoplasms for surgical pathologists to interpret. Mucinous tumors sometimes coexist with other surface epithelial tumors. Therefore, ma...
